Committees
Welcome! Want to get more involved in ASU SWE? Here’s what you need to know.
Leadership Team Structure
Our leadership team is composed of 3 levels: Directors, Officers and Committee Chairs, and Committee Members.
Directors: Directors are members of the leadership team who have been voted on and elected by the General Body in April. All directors make up the members of the Executive Council.
Officers: The term “Officer” is used to describe members who report to a particular director, but do not lead a committee. They are stand alone positions who have roles specifically to help aid and support their Director. Previous experience with the SWE Leadership team is not required.
Committee Chairs: The term “committee chair” is used to describe a member who also reports to a specific Director, but is also responsible for and leads their committee. This ensures that there is clear communication between the committee and their Director. It is recommended that chairs have previous experience relevant to the committee they will be volunteering with.
Please Note: Committee chairs and officers are at the same level of leadership within the SWE Leadership team. Officers and Committee Chairs are not members of the Executive Council, but are members of the Leadership Team. Officers and Chairs are more time commitment and have larger responsibilities associated with their roles compared to that of a committee member.
Committee Members: The term “committee members” is used to describe members who serve on a committee for a particular purpose and report to their chair and Director. These roles are meant to aid their Director, and be an introduction to the SWE Leadership team. Committee member roles are recommended for all members to help get involved within our organization. No previous leadership or SWE experience is necessary for these roles.

Officer and Chair Selection Process
Officers and Committee Chairs will be chosen by the Executive Council, and approved by the President. This process is outlined in the SWE ASU Bylaws. If you would like to read the bylaws, please feel free to request a copy of those from the President or Vice Presidents. The application linked here will close at 11:59PM on Saturday, September 12th, 2020 (AZ time). All applicants will be notified of the appointments on Sunday, September 20th.
All committee member positions are open, unless the maximum number of members has been reached. All positions at SWE ASU are listed in this document; however, all available positions will be listed on the form here. Once the maximum number of members has been reached (as set by the overseeing Director and Chair), that committee will be removed from the Interest Form
